Wits and Wagers Family Edition

  • 1999

Wits and Wagers Family bring fun for a variety of ages. Do you know the average number of times a person blinks each day? or the greatest number of puppies born in the same litter? Of course not – and you don’t need to! That’s the fun. No one typically knows the answers, but with some wit at guessing you could score. First, take a guess at the answer and write in on your personal dry-erase answer board. Next, line up everyone's answer on the table so everyone can see. Each player then takes their two meeples and places them on the answer(s) they like best. Each answer comes with a fun fact and the correct number.

We found Wits and Wagers Family to be fun and enjoyable for the various personalities, talents, and knowledge levels of our children. All six of us enjoyed it very much. I particularly appreciated the opportunity to help the kids think through reasonable numbers for guessing. For example when a percentage was needed we talked about the range needing to be between 0 and 100. Or when weeks were required in an answer we would briefly remind the players that there were 52 weeks in a year. What a great chance to talk about general knowledge stuff that does not come up too often.

There are a variety of questions and the player gets to choose between two questions every time. Sports fans can enjoy questions like, "In inches, what is the width of an NBA basketball hoop?" or "In feet and inches, how long is the longest skateboard ever made?". Children themed questions examples include- "In the story The Princess and the Pea, how many mattresses were between the princess and the pea?" and  "How many named locations are in the Candy Land game?".  History and Geography knowledge is tested with questions like, "How many chest of tea were thrown into the water during the Boston Tea Party?" and "How many states seceded from the Union during the U.S. Civil War?"

How to Play

  1. A fun question is asked...Everyone writes down their guess.
  2. Place your Maples on the two answers you like best of all... Which guess is the closest?

Feeling confident...Place a Meeple on your guess.
Think your kids know better?...Place a Meeple on their guess.
No idea...Place a Meeple on any guess and hope to get lucky!

With simpler rules and family-friendly questions, Wits & Wagers Family Edition is perfect for family game nights, or when the kids want to play with their friends.
